F Major
Finger position: Place your index finger on the E1 and B strings’ first fret. Then place your middle finger on the G (third) strings’ second fret. Finally place your ring finger on the D (forth) strings’ third fret. This is the position of the F Major chord. You might find that this chord is a little tougher to learn than most open chords. But, this chord is one of the most used chords.
Barre chord F Major
Barre position: Place your index finger on all the strings of the first fret. Then place your middle finger on the G (third) strings’ second fret. Then place your ring finger on the A (fifth) strings’ third fret. Finally place your pinky on the D (forth) strings’ third fret. Then strum your guitar. This is the position for the barre chord F Major. Now then, if you are playing barre chords for the first time, I guarantee there is no sound coming from your guitar. It’s really common. But, do not worry as you practice you’ll be play it smoothly.
Note: The best way to practice any chords is to hold the chord position and play every string individually and make sure that all of them sound smooth. And to practice the movement of the chord play one chord after the other and again make sure that all strings sound smooth. Eventually you’ll get the hang of it. Be patient.
